Dear Mrs. MacMahon:

Millville

When I learned today of the death of your brother Major  at the front, I thought of your pride in the fact that your brothers had offered their services to their country from the honest belief that their country needed then and I honored them and you in your feelings.

Today you are called upon to realize that one at least has made, with all honor, the  Supreme Sacrifice and his name is added to the names of thousands of brave and true men who in the hour of need set self aside and gave their all in the defense of right and freedom.

Words are empty in a case like your and I am not in the way of writing much but I felt I wanted to write a few lines to say that I sympathize with you sincerely in your loss and beg you to remember that if you could be proud of your brothers in their offering, you have a grander  reason for being proud of the fact that while honorable serving his country, major went to his reward.

Yours very truly
