Dear Lola,

Just a few lines to let you know I am still alive and kicking. The weather is not all that could be desired lately but we have to put up with that. We are in a quiet part of the line just now and from the front line we can see the coal mines back of Fritz's lines and some of them are working now. I am in a deep dug-out in the front line now and the light is very poor so please excuse the poor writing. As you can see by the address I am a lance corporal and I am in charge of a machine gun.

How is the weather over there now. I guess it will be skating time again soon. I was just thinking that tonight is Hallowe'en tonight. I can imagine Arnold and the rest of the boys planning things to do tonight. I guess you girls miss all that fun. You'll think there's a lot of nonsense in this letter but it can't be helped for that is all I can write anyway. Remember me to Mrs. Passmore and Jennie and Mr. Passmore and how is Fred getting along. I haven't seen any of the boys lately. Will Booker hasn't got back to the battalion yet and I haven't heard of him since he left either. Have you heard anything of any of the boys in the other Battalions. Well I'll have to close now hoping to have the pleasure of a skate with you all at New Years. I remain

Yours Sincerely
George H Tripp

P.S. Write soon and remember me to Fred when you write him.
George
