Dear Lola,

Just a few lines to let you know I have received your parcel safely. Thank you very much for the parcel. It is very kind of you to send it. The socks and handkerchiefs came in very handy and it was fine to get some Canadian candies again just like we used to get. Please excuse all these mistakes for the fellows are looking at pictures beside me and talking about home and my mind wandered away from the letter. We are back in France for a little drill to get fit before we go into action in earnest. You'll see by the papers all that is going on. We are not allowed to write for awhile on account (scratched out lines) We are all well here and hope you are all the same and all the people of Huttonville. I seem to have a lot to say but am afraid to say anything for fear of the censor stopping the letter, so you'll have to excuse this letter if it seems rather disjointed. Well Lola the time seems to fly fast out here it seems as though the summer was just starting instead of ending. The first thing we know it will be skating again. Sometimes it seems a shame that so many men in the prime of life should be practically wasting the best years of their lives. Well we all hope it will soon be over and everything is looking fine now. Lets hope it will continue so. Well I must close now. Please excuse pencil and scribble.

Yours Truly
George H Tripp

P.S. Thanks once more for the parcel.
