Dear Mr. Ellis,

I cannot tell you how sorry I was to learn, from this morning's paper, that your boy Hadden had been killed in action. Kindly accept for Mrs. Ellis, yourself and every member of the family my deepest sympathy in this time of great bereavement.

Hadden was a fine, manly boy, and I am sure that all who knew him liked him. He will be greatly missed.

The Master's words: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends," should bring great comfort to you all at this time.

With kindest regards and best wishes to you all.

From yours very sincerely,
Joseph Lee
