My Dearest Kate

Just a few lines to let you know that I have moved from Bromley am here awaiting to appear before the Medical Board. The Medical Officer is waiting for a letter from mother to say that I shall be well cared for while waiting for a vacancy at Rochampton so its evident now that I shall not spend Christmas in Canada but I think I would rather take the trip on two legs that on crutches. They wont give me furlough until they are satisfied that I have a home to go to. I may have to wait a few weeks before going to Rockampton & if so I shall try to get around to see all my relations & there after I get my leg I don't care how soon they pack me off to Canada. I suppose it will be some time before they will do that as I shall have to learn to walk first. I hope to bring you back a birthday present I haven't forgotten the date this time. I had a letter from Mr. Marlyn the other day. He says they are all waiting for my return (not any more than I am). I had a letter from Connie's sister the other day with a picture of yourself & Alice & Connie & the two kiddies & the dog. I couldn't make out who was writing to me from Newmarked as I had no friends there so you can imagine my surprise when I saw the picture. I am hoping to be out of here next week some time but of course one never knows what will happen in hospital especially a military hospital & you can bet your life I am fed up with them by now &anxious to get away from it altogether & to get into a suit of civilian clothes again this hero? [?] of wearing hospital blues is alright for a few days but it soon wear off. When I do get back to Victoria I hope no one will hand one a white feather and ask me why I am not in khaki as a lot of people have done here to disabled [?]. Well dear this is all I have to say now so will close with heaps of love & tons of kisses XXXX
