Fine & warm. Presentation of decorations in morning.

Am still undecided what course to follow.

Visited Vendelles today but could not find Maj. Bell. Mr. Trotter however the Adjt. told me that the Maj. had decided to uphold my award to the five men. The extraordinary part is that the General declares that the matter of the administering of this punishment had never entered his mind yet when Col. Hesketh made complaint about the way I handled his men he sent Maj. Bell down. This some three days after the complaint from the Div. Why was the change not made when the Div. made the complaint. And why did the General tell Bell that he was sending him down to investigate the cases of the five men yet tells me this has nothing to do with the change.

I shall sleep another night on this.
