My Dear Win,

Many thanks for your long newsy letter of Aug 23rd which I got this morning. We have been up the line and have just come out for rest last night, arrived here about 1 o'clock this morning, after a 3 1/2 hour march across country, falling in and out of shell holes etc. so arrived here more dead than alive and fell into bed not to move till 1 o'clock this morning. When I condescended to wake up and have some breakfast and it was then that I found your letter and also one from Ham, he said Bob had been over on 10 days leave and they had a fine time together. We have a pretty good billet here, 2 officers in each room, with wire netting bunks, one above the other something like a pullman car. Waked up the first morning, we were her with somebody yelling Toronto Union, next stop. Excuse this delay but Friday the day I started this, somebody wanted me to go to the movies so that's the reason it wasn't finished then, and yesterday we left here at 7 o'clock in the morning. We had to march about 3 miles away to do some work and after that was finished I went around visiting fellows I knew in the artillery ending up at George's...
