Dear Mother :- Just a few lines to let you know that I am safe and well. I got your letter written on the 12 Jan. and was glad to hear that you are well. hope dad is better before now. I wrote you all a letter some days ago so this will follow it shortly. You spoke about another box to come. Send as many as you like as they come in very hand as one cannot buy much in this God forsaken land but their wine and beer that is not very filling. When you write tell me how many you have sent up to date Feb 8. so I will know if I get them all. I have got 2 up to date from home By the way, when you send the next box send some horehound candy and cough candies as we all have colds they carry better than a bottle.
So Barnard got his letter alright I also sent Medd one the same day that I sent your last one. McFalls is not with us this time he went to the hospital with mumps he will be there a few weeks likly. No doubt my watch will be home before this letter at least Vic Hogarth said he was going to send it. I left it with him in England to get fixed he wrote me and said the man could not do it for 5 weeks so I wrote and told him to get it and send it home. as one could not get one fixed in this country. You can get it fixed up and let some one wear it if you like. Lloyd or George. So Alden is thinking of taking a trip just like him. I just heard the States are getting stired up. must be something unusual. I also heard that the navy had some work to do the other day. News are scarce up here some day the war will end and we will not know it. Well I must close now. Earl. (Still very cold over here)
