Dear mother

Thank you for your letters, we are still in Medicine Hat, although it said in this mornings Paper, that we were to leave for some place in Eastern Canada or England right away, but you cant go much on what these papers out here say. so, I think it will be all right to send my mail to Medicine Hat for the present. I have not been doing any signaling lately, I am a rough rider just now they are buying Horses for the [?] & 10 of us are riding them out, I expect I shall be put back with the Signalers as soon as the Horses are gentle, it is very cold out here now, it has been 30 below here all the last week. I was up to see maggie at New Years I had a very nice time, Helen is a lovely little Baby & so very good she never cried once while I was up there, I should like to see Joan she must be awful cute from what maggie says.

Major Gen. Hughes was here to review us the other day, he said the 3rd Coll R was the finest bunch of men he had seen in Canada yet, the standard was form 5'6" up so most of the men are pretty big. We have some very nice Officers most of them are Ranchers, & are pretty free & easy when they are not on Parade.

Give my love to Emmie & all. I remain
Your loving Son

Tommy
