Dear Violet:

Your letter with the three snaps in it has just arrived and I have just finished writing to mother. Our battalion came out of the trenches this afternoon and I certainly was glad to get out again although this time it wasn't as bad as the first time we were in. I received a parcel the other night it was brought to me right in the dugout and believe me it went good. Be sure and send lots more the bigger the better. We are issued our days rations the night before and one night the rats carried mine off and so I went without the next day but I fooled them that night again. I ate my rations as soon as I got them. we were quite cosy this last time in except for the rats and our little crawly friends which cause quite a lot of scratching. The shells didn't bother us very much only shaking down the mud and stones of the walls of our little dugout. I haven't seen Art since we left the Somme but I suppose he is alright. I hope some of the parcels you spoke of arrive soon for they certainly will receive a great reception. I will close now with lots of love to all at 2361. Don't forget to write often as I do like to get your letters. they are the right kind.
