Dear Mother.

I received your letter this morning and was very much disappointed not to find a couple of pounds in it. But I suppose you didn't think about it. We expect to go on six days leave Tuesday but I don't know whether I will go or not as I don't see where the money is going to come from. So be sure not to forget me in the next letter you write. I got Bruce's letter a few days ago and was very glad to receive it. Last night we finished our week at the ranges and very glad too. We left camp at 5.30 am and marched about 6 miles over hills and fields to the ranges and all we had for dinner was a cheese and jam sandwich. We did some shooting with gas helmet on the last day and attacking with fixed bayonets. C coy is the best company that went to the ranges having 19 marksmen 92 first class shots and 23 second. I made 113 points being just 12 points short of being a marksman however I am a first class any way and maybe next time I will get those 12 points [?]. I haven't seen Art for a long time now but suppose he is still around some place. This morning right after church parade we had a kit inspection but no air raid so far. I have only had the one box from home so far but hope for another any time. The apples will be great. Are the tomatoes ripe yet they are something I am going to miss. The weather is quite hot around here now and lots of people are flocking into Folkstone and Hythe for holidays by the sea. I will close now and please don't forget the coin and lots of boxes. Love to all
