Dear Mother:-

Just got home last night from Xmas holidays with Syd who went back this morning. I found a big bunch of letters from you, also your fine big bunch of cigars. You did right to send me cigars as they are the one thing I never get sick of and are always a treat.

Well we had a rattling good Xmas. Syd came down to see me and as I could get leave I took it. We went to see Mr. Adams on Fri 22nd and stayed till Sun morn. We took a run over to see Percy's mother. Percy's married sister and her husband were there. They live at Reading. We left about 8 o'clock but saw Percy's dad before we left.

Sunday we went and saw your cousin George Morris at Stamford Hill. That is where Uncle Arthur hangs out. We had dinner and left for Croydon in the afternoon to spend Christmas with the Prescott Row, Grandad's brother. We had Xmas Day there and on Boxing Day we went over and saw Mrs. Thornbury, Dad's cousin. We had lunch at the golf club (some class). After lunch went back to house, spooned with a couple of 42nd cousins (nice girls).

Next day Syd went up to London and I went over and saw Mrs. Warner. Yesterday we both had our photo taken and went to see Granny Adams at Twickenham. She was ill but was tickled to see us.

I went and saw Syd off and came home via Ealing where I went to a picture show and had tea. This morning I was up before the colonel and got 7 days confinement to barracks and got marked for Taplow to have my arm treated so I am now good for another 2 or 3 months in hospital.

Well dear I guess you had a pretty slow Xmas but still what's the diff. What is Bessie working at? Had a long letter from Grandma.

We are having very mild weather here and I saw them threshing down in Surrey.

Well dear I hope you will have a happy if quiet birthday. Have been on fatigue this afternoon.

Give my love to the kids. Hope Bessie likes her job.

Love,

Jack
