Sept 23 1916 Dear Bill Recd your letter of the 1st along with the enclosed which I have signed. I cannot send you money as I did in England so if father will pay I'll of course pay him later. Did he get last years info OK at a decent rate? Everything is going fine, although the war has changed and fighting here is considerably different than the previous year or so of trench warfare, Have been working very little recently. It is almost impossible to give an intersting account of the changes. To say Im well is about all, which the field postcards answer. I saw Bill Hutchins a while ago and a few of the club boys. Fred Sampson is in England and was staying in Manchester just a few doors from Aunt Susan's but by the time I could have written him he would be back in camp, so of course he didn't call. I'm interested to hear of your frequent visits to Berlin, but as long as you have Marion there to advise you that the foolish rush in where the wise fear to tread, yuou cant come to much harm, eh? Bye Bye for the present and good luck to you. Your Bro. John
