Dear Em,

It has rained all day and all day yesterday and most of day before to say lest I am fed up and never felt so disgusted in my life. I have been feeling miserable all week. You see I am alright now. My throat is all better and I am quite fit again. And I know where I should be as well as the next one. I went down to the board last Wednesday and asked for a few days. Instead of that they said I should take 3 weeks and so now I am here for over two weeks more. I don't mean here but some place in England, they said I should go any place in British Isles, but when I asked for a pass to Ireland, they said that was quite impossible owing to the revolt. So here I am.
I have been here now over three weeks now, besides two weeks in Boulogne, so do you wonder that I am feeling like getting back.
Last week I did not know what to do with myself. I went to all the shows in town nearly, ate at nearly all the large restaurants, but I can't say I had a good time at all.
On Saturday I went with a friend of mine down to visit his sister. She and her husband live down at Chumsley Essex and I thought we would have a good time. But he developed a cold on the road down, so we stayed in bed nearly the whole week end while it rained outside. He was not well enough to get up this am, but I got up and caught the 10.30 train in, so here I am.
When I got home the first thing the nurse said was how you had better have a nice hot bath and get right to bed. After being in bed for nearly all week end. Can you beat that.
First chance I get I am going down to Falkestone and see if I cannot get right across to France.
