Dear Sister

Yours of Jan 16th to hand. It takes considerably longer to come to me than to reach you, but that is due to hold ups in coming the last few miles.

We are greatly interested as to whether the U.S. is coming in or not. I don't see how she can stay out, the way the French papers put it over here. But by the time this letter reaches you, it will have been decided one way or the other. It will make short work of this war if they decide to come in so here's hoping.

It has been very cold, the coldest I have ever felt. Northern Quebec has nothing on this place for cold. I believe it is the coldest spot in France. Other places quite close are quite warm but we are always cold even with the hot sun out all day it very seldom thaws.

The Huns visit us quite regularly at all times & believe me not much time is lost getting to the dugouts when the bombs start coming close. The weather hinders us to a big extent, having air cooled engines. The huns have it on us in that respect with the stationary water cooled. Skip will understand why that is. My cabin is very popular just at present, having the hottest stove & there is always four or five getting their selves warm & playing chess.

Last night in the middle of a poker game, a bomb dropped very close. Windows went and a few mirrors & pictures came to grief & the poker game (ended) in a mad rush for the dug outs.

Your letters come quite often and very pleased am I to get them too.
