GUNNER W.P. LAJOIE Writes

Gunner W.P. Lajoie writes his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. LAJOIE, as follows:

France August 8th, 1918.

Dear Mother and Father:
Having a little time to myself to-day. I thought I would write you, for it is very hard to say when I shall have the chance again, now, since we are in the big race for Berlin. Well, it is a regular hell over here and every man is fighting for all that is in him and facing death with a smile. Fritz is being swept before us and his men are falling like wheat before a binder. I have had several narrow escapes in the past week, but thanks to your prayers and the grand way my machine gun worked for me, I am still top dog. Everybody over here thinks the fun will be over this fall. Well, I hope it is right for 1 have had pretty nearly enough of fighting. Still, the war is not over yet, and we are too game to keep quiet, as fight is our middle name. Well, I must close with love to all.
Your loving son,
WILFRED.
