Dear Mrs Wood

Thank you very much for the socks + wishes, they are very much appreciated, socks are a most useful present.

I am glad to say the weather is improving. Today is just like summer, a fine day's dry weather make a great deal of difference to the trenches + course makes a tour into the trenches not so bad.

At present we are out for a rest which everybody looks forward to. I am writing this in a Y.M.C.A. tent which are quite close to the firing line + we also have a picture theatre here + a good band also which makes a good change.

Please thank the ladies of the Stony Plain Womens Institute for their kind presents

Yours sincerely

C.H. Mellor
