Sept 5/18

My dear Sister:

Just received your most startling letter with that awful bad news. I have been hoping and praying for him for your sake that all would go well with him but perhaps it is Our Lord's will that he should be taken, we will hope and trust without much suffering, oh what those poor boys have to suffer no one but God alone knows.

How I do pity the boys mother's also. Oh it must be dreadful. Did she send you the message or did it come direct from France.

I truly do sympathize with you most heartily.

Let us know if you hear any particulars, if life gets to unbearable in S. come and spend a weekend with us.

We are always
Your loving Sister & Brother
E.H.N.&E.[?]

I am going to write to Stella to-day if you haven't forwarded the news I will, forward your note to her.

Hilt was in a few minutes ago and when I told him the sad news he said "surely not" and he felt badly when he read your note.
