My dear Mother,

It's Xmas night & as I have nothing to do, I thought I would write you a letter. I did my first guard yesterday going on at 9 yesterday morning & coming off at 9 this morning and I have slept most of the day. I like my duties here fine, now that we have our horses in. One troop goes seven miles out of the city every day by train to practice shooting and like it fine.

I am sending you our menu card of our dinner today, so you will know by that, that they are treating us OK down here. We are only getting part of our kit here, consisting of everything but a khaki uniform & saddles. We are getting blue serge, same as Strathcona uniform to wear here.

If all reports are true, we will sail somewhere about the 10th Jan., A,B & C Squadrons; leaving D, E, & F to go about the 25th.

Well, Mother dear, I hope I shall hear before we leave & also the boys. Colonel Evans made a fine speech at dinner today & he was cheered by the men in great style. I hope you are all well and with love to you & the boys, I remain

Your affectionate son,

George

I did not get my no. yet.
