Diary

Tues. Apr. 10 -

Spent day putting up horse lines and bivouacs. A wet disagreeable day. This is a rather busy place. A big advance has been made. Prisoners and wounded are pouring back from the front line trenches. Engineers and work battalions are hard at it building roads and bridges ahead and rushing up supplies of ammunition, food, and men and guns. Just behind the lines like this, at a time of advancing, it looks a wonderfully busy place. Of course, there is an army of men at work here to do it. It is a sort of headquarters or junction for the light (narrow gauge) railway which is so wonderfully handy and is used a good deal. The tracks can be laid very quickly and goods carried over it quicker than thru muddy roads. Was on stable picket - second beat.
