Dear [?]

Just a few lines to let you know that I am in the best of health and my wounds are just about healed. I will soon be ready to go back to France.

Well how are all the folks getting on I hope they are well. I suppose you have heard all about the big allied attacks. Well, I will tell you my experiences as far as I went.

We were called from the north of France suddenly and we started to move south and landed up in the south of France and went into the line and we had no idea we were going to attack but we saw the preparations they were making and we heard one night that we were to attach the following morning so that night we moved up to the front line and waited till about four in the morning and the barrage opened up and we started and just before daylight a heavy fog fell and we got all mixed up I and my crew found ourselves with the first division then we tried to find our own battalion and we ran into a wood whitch we knew was heavily manned with machine guns so we waited till the fog cleared and then started and Fritz opened up about sixteen guns on us so we had a hot time taking the guns but we got them and killed all the crews I went about a hundred yards further and got hit in the back and in the hand so I had to go back to the rear and I landed up in England. I am in a V.A.D. hospital and we couldn't be treated better.

I hope you are not married yet you know you should wait and give me first chance Ha! Ha!
Well I guess I will have to close for the present Hoping this letter finds you in the best of health

I. remain
Your loving cousin
Alex
