Dear [?] Reid

Your kind letter reached me a couple of days ago and I was very much pained to hear the sad news it contained. You dear brother seemed such a fine lad. home meant a lot to him and at least you will have the comfort of knowing he laid down this young promising manhood to protect and save others from worse than death. May God comfort you and your sister I know you have one called Sadie for I remember your brother speaking of her. How wonderful this war has been in bringing all English speaking people together. to us here it has knit very closely the bonds of kindred across the seas and how proud we are of the dear boys who have travelled so many miles of oceans to help to guard our island home, you can never realize.

I had a letter from a nephew in Belgium last evening. he says it seems as if a great load was lifted now that hostilities have ceased he has never been out for nearly 4 years and was wounded twice now I must close with kindest regards and deep sympathy

I remain yours very sincerely
L. Mackay[?]
