My Dearest Father:

Received your letter a few days ago but have never been able to answer it till today. we have been on the move this last week or so. just the same as last year. this time, we left Hfx a year ago yesterday and tho years ago tomorrow the the 85th mobalized Capt Clark was speaking about it this A.M. Spence is writing you today I suppose he will tell you all the news.

I am writing this in an old barn. when I got your letter we were in a town had a nice little room but no feather beds in it. ha ha the wether is getting pretty cold and lots of rain.

Jessie said she was sending some socks. I will be glad to get them and the gloves you are sending.

If you want to keep the mare instead of the colt you had better sell the colt because the mare will likely suit you better now as Jessie can drive her. it may be quite a long time before we get back and there are lots of horses. although I want [?] when we do.

Have you got a [?] yet Jessie said Viola had gone. Glad to hear that Jessie Sedgwick got home for a little while. it will be a nice rest and change for her will I guess I will say good night

hoping you are all well
with Lots of Love to All
Aff Son Don
