Dear Mr. Reid

I wish to extend to you my sincere sympathy in the loss of your heroic and noble son. Pte. D.C. Reid. You boy was with his battalion on the night of September 25th when he was instantly killed by a bomb explosion.

Pte. Reid was a splendid soldier, was faithful in the performance of his duty wherever that way have led him. By his gentlemanly bearing he was beloved by all and we mourn his loss truly.

I buried his body in the Fanborg D'[?] Arras Cemetery along with many of his comrades. His grave location is Plot Y. Row F. Grave 46.

May God bless and sustain you in this hour.

Sincerely, Bruse [?]
Capt. Chaplain
