Tues. May 8 -

We were slightly affected by gas and all seemed to have bad colds - tight feeling in head & chest, etc. We did a great deal of firing during day & most of night. Was on guard and from 10 - 12.30 did sentry duty on railway track watching for S.O.S. signals while gas shells kept dropping around and air was full of gas. Had to keep mask on. When I came off sentry duty, had to help on gun and got no sleep. Oh! I was tired and sleepy by morning.
