Dear Mother:-

This is Monday night so I am late with my letter this week-end. I am writing as you see by the heading from a different part of England but I will be back Southampton and Isle of Wight way in two or three days more. I have shifted about a whole lot since last Wednesday but I will settle down again the first of next week. I am on convoy work at the present time for our company, delivering new cars to different parts of Southern England and taking back old worn out ones to be thrown on the scrap heap.

Bringing back the old ones is a whole bunch of fun as we have all kinds of breakdowns. I left Southampton Saturday morning, with eleven other boys, and we had twelve new cars. We stayed at Exeter Sat night and went on to Davenport and delivered them on Sunday. This morning we started back with our old ones and only got about 20 miles today. But better luck tomorrow I hope.

I am billeted out tonight in a private house and the people are fine. Real broad homelike Devonshire but I feel right at home. The lady has lost two boys in France and her third is a prisoner in Germany. She laughs at “Young Canada” helping her wash the dishes etc. But I am some handy kid.

Well Mother I expect last weeks  mail is waiting at the Battery for me so don’t know much. Excuse this short note but I am out of time for writing tonight. Will write again this week. Wishing you all a Merry Xmas and lots of love. I am

Your loving son
Harold.
