Dear Pater,

Your cable of £10/10/0 reached me yesterday and I had no difficulty in getting the money from the Bank of Commerce. I have succeeded in getting along on my little 12 shillings per day up to now, but only just that and no more, and this week when I had to pay for a new tunic and some under-clothes I found myself absolutely "broke"

The "cost of living" and the prices of everything are much higher here than in Toronto and that 12 bob looks mighty small. However, I am finding still cheaper places to eat in, and never look at a taxi now, and 1 don’t think I shall need to come to you again for funds. As soon as I get a raise of some sort I shall be able to pay you back, Pater. I do hope this remittance has not inconvenienced you, and I do thank you more than I can tell you for helping me out.

Must close now and get back to my knitting. With heaps of love.

Always your devoted son,
Eric.
