Christmas, 1915.

you dear darling. I shall write again soon. Don’t worry about me, I’m getting to be a wily old veteran and have the rifle grenade ear! My football training enables me to stretch myself at full length in a puddle with the least amount of exertion in the least possible time when necessary!

Yours lovingly,
Errol.

I am Company Bombing Officer and have charge of defensive bomb tactics on the company frontage. This battalion grenadiers, under Jim Gairdner, do the offensive stunts, and some of them are very offensive indeed - from the Germans’ point of view. Errol.
