Letter

The PORT HOPE GUIDE of Saturday last published a letter written by Mr. Hector Hamilton to a friend, from which we clip the following:

Sergeant Ted MacNachtan and myself went on a three day pass to London last week and had a good time. We visited Westminster Abbey, the War Office and Chelsea hospital which is full of wounded soldiers from the front. We also saw several other points of interest. It is a great city.

We don't know how long we will be here and would not be allowed to tell you if we did, but I don't think we will go to the front for some time yet.

The King reviewed the Canadian Artillery the other day. He sure got some reception, even if it was in a downpour of rain.
News is hard to gather here so I will ring off after telling you that the boys are bearing up in fine style under the adverse conditions. I never saw a finer lot of fellows than we have here.
Major Ralston is fine, as are all the boys from Port Hope and Cobourg.
Yours sincerely

Sgt. H.H. Hamilton
9th Battery 3rd Brigade, C.F.A., West Down, Worth Camp, Salisbury Plain, England.
P.S. - Ted MacNachtan is a son of Col. MacNachtan of the 14th Battery of Cobourg and is an awfully nice lad.
