Dear Sir:-
Quite a number of applications for War Service Gratuity at Canadian rates in respect of their service with the Imperials have been received from ex-members of the Voluntary Aid Detachment Branch of the St John Ambulance Brigade Overseas and in all cases, these claims were refused as their status for some time was undefined.
Some further information regarding their eligibility to receive this gratuity has been received from the Overseas Authorities and the Pay and Allowance Board of this Branch have issued a Ruling covering these cases. A copy of same is attached herewith for your information.
It will be appreciated if you could advise your various Branches throughout the country to request any of their Overseas members who have not as yet applied for this gratuity to do so as soon as possible in order that their claims may be duly considered and any payments to which they may be entitled made without delay.
Yours very truly,
(Signed) H. D. Dewar,
For the Assistant Director of Pay Services,
(Demobilization).
