Dear Aunt Mattie,

Thanks ever so much for the box containing the sox, handkerchiefs and chocolate. It arrived in splendid condition and all the articles were very useful. I am sending a few views of Brighton (they are rather old unfortunately) the large town five miles east of our camp.

It has been a lovely day to day though we have had quite a lot of wet weather lately. July was very dry and warm. It is our warmest month ever here and the back of the summer is already broken. I am not looking forward to another winter with pleasurable anticipation because last winter was wet and unpleasant, especially so under the existing conditions. Was glad to get the sunny shot of you on the steps of No 90. I thought Marion looked very grown up, almost middle aged and I am sure she must be taller than I am. I hope you have completely recovered from your accident by this time.
