Mr Harry Evans

Dear Friend

Just a few lines to let you know that I am in the land of the living.  I have been in the ditches & have had a few pops at them.  There is not much news to tell as you know the censor is [?] stricked.  I am sitting on the ground writing this letter on an old tin can somewhere in France.  I have not been able to learn more about Charlie.   The boys that are in his Battalion are all new fellows & dont know him at all.  I suppose you will be busy moving the wheat from the west just now.  I hope you will not have to join as two out of one family would go hard.  But I suppose if we must we must & it isnt as if we couldnt do it father was telling me in his last letter that they were falling into line good in my hometown but I hope they never have to come.  I hear that the French has been playing hell with them along the line & believe me their going to get it again somewhere youll know.  Well Harry I dont know of any more new that I can tell you.  I am just begin to like because I have had a close call filled my neck full of sand.  I am well & in good health and all well at home.  Hopping this will find your Mother and all well.

I remain your old chum
Thos O Stewart
