Dec. 21st, 1916.

Dear Friend;

You will be surprised to receive a letter from me. I had a letter from Dorothy the other day, and she gave me your address and ask me to write you a few lines.

So you are away over in France now. How do you like it there? I suppose you find everything much different from what you have been used to in Canada. What did you think of England? Some of our Whitewater boys were rather disappointed with what they saw of it.

We are having very cold weather here now. On Tuesday morning it was forty-eight below. We have not enough snow to run the cutters yet.

The Whitewater girls gave a Red Cross dance in the school-house. There was a large crowd there. The proceeds were fifty-one dollars. Justice Sexton and his cousin were over. It is very quiet here this winter. Everything seems dead.

They are having the Christmas tree entertainments at Hazeldean and Whitewater to-night. It is so cold and stormy I am afraid the crowd will be small. It seems too bad when the children work hard for their programme.

I had a card from Gladys Sexton to-night. She likes it fine in Kingston. I often see different people from Bidford in town. Did you know Susie Kerr is working in Winnipeg. She has been there for some time.

I hope you will find time to write me a few lines. With best wishes for a Happy New Year, (and I sincerely hope it does bring you all kinds of good luck and happiness)

I remain,

Your friend,

“Lillian Bates”
