Dear Mr. Irwin.

Miss Pearl Mathews thinking I was well enough- has handed to me a letter written from the Pasonage and I am very pleased to hear from you. It is just 2 weeks since I was admitted to the Hospital. The first week I do not remember very much, only being strapped down to the bed. By what the other patients tell me I gave the Nurses quite a time. I am allowed up for a while each day for exercise and find myself very weak. I took my first look in the looking glass this morning and I was scared of myself. It will take quite a lot of food to fatten me. I was afraid I would not be fit to go with this contingent but I got a promise from the doctor that I would go if I took care of myself. I have been taken great care of especially by Norwood friends. Miss Chandler attending to me most of the time then Miss Mathews paid visits when her duties permitted and Dr. Roy Richardson paid a call twice and sometimes three times a day. Mr. Pond and Martin pay occasional visits and bring news from outside.

A sad thing happened this morning (2 AM) The soldier boy in the next bed to me passed away. I happened to be awake when they look him away. I did not sleep very much the rest of the night and was glad when morning came. His name was McPherson from Cornwall.

I see the Nurse looking this way so I must close for this time

Hoping to hear from you again. Remember me to all friends at Norwood.

I Remain Yours

Sincerely

W.J. Stares.
