Letter

Wednesday, October 10th.

This is all for now. I had a very strenuous day yesterday with low stunts and fights. One Hun I fought burst "into smoke" and I could not follow him as three dived on me and drove me down to within two hundred feet of the trenches!!! I threw my bus all over the place and gave them no chance to get a good burst in. They sure tested their guns on me anyway.

One of the nicest chaps was killed yesterday. He collided in a cloud with one of our own machines. The other pilot was picked up dead and our chap died yesterday afternoon. All feel very badly about it. He was at Colney with me last April and just came back from leave a few days ago.

I am trying to find out if my Hun went down in flames. I may have only set fire to his lights which also might fire his machine. By now you will know our great Victory. It was a wonderful sight from the air.

Thanks for your nice letters of the 1st. and 2nd. received yesterday. Mails are delayed, aren't they? Will write today and answer your epistles.
