Department of National Defence

(Militia Service)

Ottawa, September 4th 1923.

Mrs. M.J. Sinclair,

864 Fleet Avenue,

Winnipeg, Manitoba.

460609, Pte. L. Sinclair,

3rd Canadian Battalion,

Madam,-

Referring to the death of your late son, the marginally-noted soldier, who was buried in Willerval Churchyard, France, will you please note that it is much regretted that although records for the area in which the burial of Private Sinclair was carried out have been carefully searched, no trace or any evidence relative to the grave of your son have been identified.

It would appear, however, that a memorial cross bearing his particulars, was found without remains and re-erected in Orchard Dump Cemetery as a memorial.

Enclosed herewith is a photograph of the memorial referred to, and the necessity of forwarding you such unsatisfactory information is very much regretted.

The memorial shown in the photograph is of a temporary nature, but you may rest assured that the memory of this soldier will be commemorated in a permanent manner at some future date, and a further communication in this connection will be forwarded to you in due course.
