Dear Mrs Stagg:-

I know how much you must be worrying and that is the reason that I am writing to you the same day that my Corpl. was wounded. You have no idea how pleased I am to be able to tell you that the wound is in the foot and not at all serious. personally I am of the opinion that he has been extremely lucky as he is now away from it all. We are the unlucky people in losing him for he has always looked after us all like a father He has been absolutely faithful to his duty under the most trying circumstances. There is not one man in my whole section who did not look upon your husband as a good and tried friend and there are many sad faces in it tonight just because he has left us for a short space of time. I verily hope he will come back to us as his invaluable opinion has helped me over many obstacles and his presence always seems to cheer us all.

Now don’t worry more than you have to for he is fine I saw him just after he was wounded and he was as cheerful as he possibly could be and most important of all not suffering any pain.
