France, 28/8/17.

My dear Sister,-

After several months of waiting I am now in France. I came over early in this month and was for a short time at a base hospital but am now up at the front. I am attached to a Field Ambulance but we also do duty with different battalions.

At present I am with a Canadian Highlander (Kiltie) battalion & they all seem like nice chaps. The O.C. & officers are fine.

My present location is pretty comfortable but the amount of work is not very great. It goes in spells.

Fritz hasn't run out of shells yet as he puts over a number now & then, but we have pretty good dugouts & pretty safe.

I saw Lieut. George Nickle a few days ago & he was well & has a good job at present. He is near where I am.

It is not permitted that I say anything about our location Etc. so cannot tell you very much. Our weather is nice, occassional rain, & of course very muddy then, but most of the time I have been here it has been dry and sunny. We have plenty of good food & sugar here. Chocolates and sox are always acceptable at the front.

How are you each? Is Helen at home on holidays now & is she quite well and also Nickle? Is he still in Saskatoon? How are Dewitt Millen and Maggie May? They will be so big I will not know them when I go home. I hope you are keeping well yourself. I am trying to take care of myself out here.

I have not had my mail reach me up here yet so have no recent news from home. But Laura and Margaret were both well last I heard. Margaret must be growing from what Laura tells me & I scarcely will realize that I have a big girl instead of a little one. I shall be so glad when we can be together again.

There are a great number of Medical Officers out here whom I know & we can meet from time to time which makes it more pleasant.

I shall be glad to hear from any of you anytime & know the news.

Guess this is all for now. France is a beautiful country except where the fighting has been & it is a ruin there. Love to all.

Your aff. bro,

 Millen.
