Letter from Pte. Bilow

Mr. And Mrs. James Bilow have just received a letter from their son Earl, dated July 17th. He stated that they were leaving for France the next morning. All were going except Charlie Thicke. This is borne out by Charlie's letter published last week. His officer is holding him back to be his orderly. Earl says Charlie tried hard to be allowed to go with the others. Earl also speaks of Premier Borden and Major-General Hughes visiting them. In other respects the letter is a family one. Earl encloses a splendid photo of himself in the kilties. By this time he will have been in the trenches and probably out again, as it was the intention to let the new soldiers have an idea of trench life ere they finished their training, and were put in the firing line as regular soldiers.
