Dear Acus

Your news startled me this afternoon. You had told me long ago that you had put your name in for a Commission, but as it had not led to anything as yet, I had concluded that for some reason, possibly political, it would continue to lead to nothing: & I cant say I was not very sorry. However that was not facing my duty and I must now be as glad as I can that you will again be serving the Empire, & I hope you will come through as fortunate as in S.A. Let us make the most of your period of training. Mother is writing to Alice [?]. You will be some weeks junior to Pug. There is so much to say that I cannot say anything & mostly you know it all without telling. I am glad Alice is backing you up: your Mother too, will not fail you. With our love both to Alice and yourself, from

Your affectionate father

Robert L. Leighton

P.S. Thanks for enclosure.
