My Deares Alice,

How are you now Child? We are having a fairly nice time down here but I feel very lonesome for my old friends especially for you sweetheart. It seems so strange to see no ladies of any sort around here. Do you feel lonesome for me or do you even miss me? I am not sending any news in this letter as I am writing a diary to you. I have got four pages of it written so far and I am going to write some every day. When we get to England or wherever we are going to, I will send it to you. I think you will find it interesting reading. I believe we are going to sail tonight or at dawn. My dear Alice, I want to ask you once again, do you love me now? If you say yes I shall go forward to whatever is ahead with a light, trusting in God and in you, but if you say no I shall be the most downhearted man in this Brigade. Well Darling, think this over and don't be hard on me, but if you think you would not be doing yourself justice by saying "yes" to my question, then please say no but do please my darling Alice try and say yes that you love me or at least you like me some. Well dear, I don't know that I have any more to say now. I shall be anxiously waiting the answer to this letter but I know I cannot get it for some time to come.

I remain
Yours as ever,
With great love,

Bob

Remember me is all I ask
But if remembrance proves a task
Forget me.

Bob
