Tuesday Feb, 23. 1915.

Dear Alice at 8:15 this morning we weighed our anchor and steamed slowly out of Halifax harbour. The band of H.M.S. Essex played us out with, "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" and other war songs. The tugs and other ships in harbour bid us farewell with their whistles. There are three transports and one warship so far. The Essex is leading the line and as the Megantic is the fastest of the three transports, we bring up the rear. We had not been out of port an hour before I was seasick, accompanied by several others. For breakfast I had fish and I guess when it smelt the sea it was impatient to get back again so I let it go and was very glad when it was over. I missed dinner and supper but the boys were good and brought me up several little snacks so we manage to get along. The Brigade had boat drill again today.
