I regret very much to have occasion to extend to you my deepest sympathy in the loss of your gallant son Pte. W.M. Dennis killed in action 9/8/18.

I was not with the battalion during that action but from inquiries I have been told that your son was brave and very courageous at all times. He will be missed by his many comrades for time to come.
