Dear Aunt Annie

Your very nice letter of Oct 21st reached me some time ago and I was very glad to hear from you.

I was in quite a different place then to where I am now for I am in hospital at the base. A little over a month ago I fell in a trench and cut my knee which caused a swelling a little above it. After a little time it became painful and I had to limp so I went to the Medical Officer and he sent me to hospital. We are treated very will and get plenty of good food. I am in an English Hospital and the Nursing Sisters are very good to us.

By your letter you were having rather poor weather for getting much work done at that time but I suppose by now all the I crops are in. I guess you will be getting ready for Christmas and I looking forward to a good dinner. I expect I will still be in hospital at that time. According to what we hear though we are going to have quite a spread. We have a little snow on the ground now which has lasted for the last four days. It looks as if we are going to have real Christmas weather. I suppose there is a good deal of snow over there now.

Now I have given you all the news so must close for his time. I hope you all are quite well and having a good time. I must wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Bright and Happy New Year.

I hope I will hear from you again and if you use the following address I should get you letters O.K. -

21st Howitzer Battery,
Can. Field Arty. B.E.F.

Your loving nephew,

Elwood
