LETTER FROM NANAIMO BOY AT FRONT

Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Brown, Machleary street, have received the following letter from their youngest son, Archie, now in France with the 48th Highlanders, 15th Battalion. The letter is dated France, July 17, 1915.
"I received three letters from you these last few days and was very glad to get them. Henry and I are both well. I heard Percy got kicked with one of his transport horses and was taken to the hospital. Isn't that too bad? I am looking after myself and don't take any chances of putting my head over the top of the trenches. A few rifle bullets landed near me yesterday but they were not quite straight enough, and a few shells landed near where we are bivouacking but they did no damage.
We have now been from one end of the British firing line to the other, so you see we have done some travelling since we came to France. We are in reserve trenches in Belgium where the Canadians first went when they went into the trenches. They are very comfortable and about as safe as they could be. We have dugouts and sleep in them, which are shrapnel-proof.

"This is all this time. I will write again in a day or two. Give my love to all.

Your loving son,

ARCHIE.
