France. Mar 19/18.

My dear Fern:

I have had a few letter from Canada lately but very few and far between. I don't know which to blame you or the mails.

I received another parcel this morning from the T Meth Pat Soc which was very acceptable. Will you thank them for me?

Our C.O. went home this morning to get promotion and a job in England. All the old chaps in the squadron including yours truly gave him a dinner at 6. We left the camp about 6.30 in three t[?] and were about 45 minutes on the road. Had a fine dinner in the Hotel de Sauvage were we had a private room and permit to stay until 11p.m. Had a peach of time and got home about twelve mostly tight. We have a new C.O. who seems pretty good but he cant come up to Sandary. Everybody seems to be going home on H.E. and I have done four months of my time now and am 7 or 8 for H.E. now.

We were on for a show at 10 AM this morning but thank goodness it is raining as most people have thick heads from last night. We had a wonderful scrap over [?] yesterday. Eleven of us ran into the whole German flying corps about 20 I should say. Carter & I started off the scrap by diving on an Albatross at 14000. He spun & dived down to 4000 and I followed him down & got in some good bursts at him but I couldn't wait to see if he crashed as other things claimed my attention just then so I can only claim him as out of control. All of our chaps returned O.K. although Fairclough & Blythe were pretty well shot up. We claimed six crashed which were all confirmed.

Dad tells me that you have lost all your money in the Dom Loan Co and that you are now dependent on him. I think the best thing for you to do is get married. Did I tell you that the last night I was in town I went to a show with Max as it was his birthday 25 or 52 I forget which. He seems to be behaving himself altho I haven't heard from him lately.

The squadron has this picture taken yesterday and I may be able to get one brought to you after a while. Turned out rotten as the end of my nose & my cheek is all frost bitten and it shows up.

Love to all

Gord
