Dear Dad:

Received your cable on Friday 1st in answer to mine of the 28th [?]. I also received a letter from you on Tuesday last. Max came up to town Saturday evening but only had 24 hours and had to return this morning. This town is packed with R.F.C. & R.N.A.S officers. So far I have had plenty to eat. From yesterday everybody must bring their own sugar: no sugar served along[?] hotels or restaurants. I quite believe there is plenty to eat in the country but there is no distribution system. It will be the best thing that ever was done when the put this country on rations. Everybody will get a darn sight more to eat than they do now. I'm kind of fed up with this place. I had everything you could want to eat and drink in France and very seldom saw a Hun and then I came over here and the first night I get here they have their first raid for six weeks. The Huns did some good shooting that night. I am O.K. for meals as I brought some of Kathleens sugar over with me and if there is any shortage of anything the poor civies have to stand it. Soldiers served first.

You might tell Fern that Ward[?] is writing just beside me. I believe he tried to knock a tree down with a D.H.H. (a very foolish thing to do). Evidently the tree got the better of it.

Quite a few good shows in town. That's about all there is to do as the weather is very dud. Culver tells me there was a big mail boat sunk last week so probably some of my letters went down with it. I had not sent anything of importance that I remember.

Love to all

Gord
