Thursday August 3/17

Dear Dad,

I expect I will be able to send a letter to you to tonight so will add a little more to what I have written.

The fog cleared up a couple days ago and we have had splendid weather since. Yesterday afternoon (Aug 2) we met our convoy - two destroyers. They stayed with us until early this morning.
[section missing] to reach Liverpool sometime tonight which will mean eleven days on the boat.
[section missing] are only about a mile or so from land so we can get a fair idea of this country. Really looks very good to me.

We have been on guard for the last couple of days. Two fellows at a time for two hours each. Of course I picked a good watch - 2 - 4 this morning. It wasn't much use going to bed for a few minutes before two. Anyways it isn't done on this boat. The average time that I have got to sleep is about 2am. Last night when I finished my watch (4am) I came down to the stateroom but it seemed too stuffy as of course all port holes are closed so I decided to wait until after breakfast to go to sleep. Had breakfast at eight and a good sleep from 9-to 1pm this morning. However we don't do much so there is no reason why we should be tired.

Hope to post this tomorrow Aug 4. Take care of yourself, write-and love to all. Gord.
