Dear Mrs Smith.

I am very sorry to tell you your son, Pte A C Smith 739465 19th Canadian Battalion passed away in the 22nd Casualty Clearing Station on the 16th (Thursday) at 8:30 pm. He has been badly wounded on doing his duty for the Empire. He was buried on the 17th in the Military Cemetery at Bruay. I conducted the service. May the Heavenly Father comfort you in your sad loss. He died for truth and righteousness.
