My dear Mrs. Ellis and family,

You have been in our minds today and our hearts go out to you all in this your sad hour.

We only heard last night about poor Hadden and I can assure you the news has cast a gloom on all at Hulbert - it dont seem possible that Bert & Hadden are both gone it seems but yesterday since I had them in my class.

I know words are so weak at such a time as this. I wish it were possible for us all to be with you but the one great friend is near you all and after all He is the only one who can bring comfort in this your great need what a priviledge to have this great friend to lean on. My earnest prayer is that God's grace may be given to you all abundantly and that you all may be enabled to trust him even though you may not be able to trace his dealings. He knows best and someday we will understand this awful war we know not why God permits it but I believe that Britain will never win with men and money. I have thought from first that if the Hearts of all can turn to God and would heed in him and give him his place in all our lives then we would have victory but those in athority seem to try every other means and leave God outside of there plans, and so they are taking our best. God will not over look this great sacrifice out Boys are making in giving their lives for what they think is right. This thought I trust will be a great comfort to you that Hadden was willing to give his life for right and what greater thing could he do for our [?] that greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends. These are the words of our blessed master.

Again we extend to you all our deepest sympathy and although we cannot be with you our prayers go up to God and trust you will be sustain and that some day we may all meet where sadness or sorrow is never known.

With very best wishes we remain your friends and sympathies,
H.L & Ella Morrison
